Elbert "Junior" Lee Steele was born January 19, 1928 at Island, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Elbert Lee, Sr. & Mary Kate Smith Steele. He married June Irene McIntosh November 7, 1949 in Bakersfield, California. They divorced in Washington, Oregon June 12, 1967. His second marriage was September 2, 1982 in Jenny Lind, Sebastian Co., Ar. to Mae Bell McClain.

Junior enlisted in the Army at Camp Josepth T. Robinson in Little Rock April 17, 1946. He states he has a grammar school education and is a farmer. His last enlistment was September 14, 1968, serving until July 31, 1973.

Junior Lee Steele passed away January 5, 2008 at Fort Smith, Sebastian Co., Ar. with his burial being at Dawson Memorial Cemetery at Milltown, Sebastian Co., Ar.

Junior L. Steele, 79, of Barling died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2008, in a local hospital. He was retired from U.S. Army Engineers, a member of Faith Baptist Church, the VFW and an Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday at Faith Baptist Church with burial at Dawson Cemetery in Milltown under the direction of McConnell Funeral Home of Greenwood.

He is survived by his wife, Mae; four daughters, Betty Johnson, Diane Buck, Susan Johnson and Kathy Steele, all of Forest Grove, Ore.; two sons, David Steele of Gaston, Ore., and Jimmy Steele of Yamhill, Ore.; a stepson, Jessie McClain of Barling; four sisters, Mary Tackett of California, Lucy Tackett of Missouri, Barbara Staples of Guthrie, Okla., and Virginia Wiseman of Oakland, Miss.; three brothers, Robert Steele of Las Vegas, Jesse Steele of Viola and Kenneth Steele of Sallisaw; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Roy Winton, Jim O'Dell, Bob Harkreader, Stacy Newby, Mark Heathcott, Tommy Gamble, Joey Chambers and Danny Cross.
